Mike Thackwell paid a visit to the catch fencing at the Ford Chicane but extricated the Kouros Sauber quickly and went into the pits with the nose damaged and the rear wing awry.
Peter Sauber's crew spent 20 minutes rectifying the damage and sent Henri Pescarolo on his way.
