Although we always recommend following CDC guidelines for proper breastmilk storage, there are also a few steps you can take to see if your milk is safe for baby ⬇️
1. Appearance- if your breast milk appears chunky or has separate layers even after swirling a couple of times, the milk has likely gone bad.
2. Smell- if the milk is rancid or has a sour smell, then the milk has undergone chemical oxidation and discarding is advisable.
3. Taste- this one may the trickiest one.. it’s not everyday you’re trying out your breastmilk! Similar to the smell, if it tastes rancid or sour, it’s likely gone bad!
