He made a name for himself on Irish television in the hospital drama “The Clinic”, in which he played the role of Patrick Murray from 2003 to 2009. For this performance, he received two Irish Film and Television Awards for Best Supporting Actor. On the big screen, he appeared in three films nominated for the Oscar for Best Picture: “War Horse”, the emigration epic “Brooklyn” and “The Banshees of Inisherin”. He also played the role of Inspector Gerry Stanton in the films “The Guard” and “Calvary”. He was last seen in 2025 in the Channel 4 drama “Trespasses”. Two as yet unreleased productions featuring Lydon are still to come: just a few weeks ago, he spoke about the completed works “The Sandy Banks” and “One Sweet Hour”.
