The aim of today’s walk was to find the culvert or tunnel that runs underneath the railway line at Mullets Creek at Wondabyne.
Today we have a full contingent of the Friday Bushwalkers.
Meeting at the car park at Woy Woy road we come across a couple of friendly bushwalkers who were heading in a similar direction and we decide to join forces and head off together.
We head off along the tunnel trail until we reach a cross roads and then turn right along the Mullet Creek fire trail.
Here the route becomes less clear, as we are told in various descriptions in the “ All Trails” app
that the way down to the tunnel is indicated by a metal power pole with an arrow marked on it. We attempted to do this but we came across a steep hill ( almost vertical ) going down . At this point we returned to the trail and continued along.
At this stage we parted company with the other bushwalkers who had to head back.
Eventually we reached the creek. However we then had to clamber along the foreshore to reach the tunnel.
After a bit of a struggle and checking that the tide wasn’t going to come in whilst on our hike, we finally came to the entrance of the tunnel.
After some hilarious drone flying and morning tea we headed back.
We decided to return by a more direct but much steeper route.
To begin the cliff was far too steep to climb, however after walking along for a while we came across a less steep hill.
Although less steep it was a challenging climb. However we managed to reach the top and rejoin the trail.
Now we simply returned to our cars retracing our steps.
It was one of the most challenging and entertaining walks we have done and we were all pleased to have found the entrance to the culvert.
