TL/DW - While some full frame lenses can appear less sharp on a smaller format camera, it has much more to do with the sensor design than the lens.

An individual lens’ optics do not change when changing from format to format, but the pixel pitch, resolution and a number of other variables can & do change from camera to camera, which can absolutely effect sharpness, but again, this is not a lens thing, it is a sensor thing. Even high megapixel full frame sensors can out-resolve full frame lenses, and there are many excellent full frame lenses that work just fine on crop sized sensors.

Remember that there is a huge amount of subjectivity in determining what is "sharp enough" for a specific given media. The vast majority of consumers will never consider image sharpness as much as the professional pixel peeper.

My advice:

1. Use the best lens you have for the job & go shoot.
2. If it isn't sharp enough stop it down.
3. If it still isn't sharp enough, rent some new lenses to try out!

Other Suggestions:

1- Become familiar with MTF charts & learn how to read them.

2- Understand no two lenses, even of the same models are exactly the same.

3- Do not give much weight to DXO's perceived megapixel score until they publish their methodology.
