President Cyril Ramaphosa is set to deliver the 2026 State of the Nation Address, on Thursday, at a time when South Africans are looking for clear answers on jobs, the cost of living, crime, service delivery and the performance of the state.
Last year, the President committed government to inclusive economic growth, job creation and building a capable and ethical state under the Medium-Term Development Plan.
Since then, there has been some progress, particularly on energy stability but unemployment remains high, living costs continue to rise and service delivery challenges persist.
So, ahead of SONA 2026, we ask: what has government delivered on since the last address and what should South Africans realistically expect this year?
