Another tough tight game finishing 10-10 against quality opposition. Changes to the 1st team squad meant a couple of our regular players being given the opportunity to be called up and represent the senior side.

Aldwinians were a very physical side, coming at LSH hard hard and fast straight out of the gate. 5mins into the game a mid field ruck resulted in an early substitute for Ash Reynolds with Ben Heart.

10mins into the game LSH took an opportunity to gain the upper hand with a tactical Kick downfield from Bailey Williams that forced a Goal-line drop out that the opposition kicked out on the full to give LSH a 5m scrum. Aldwinians pack managed to win the scrum and clear their line to ease the pressure.

The next fifteen minutes saw lots of tight forward play mid field with the visitors applying pressure from a penalty to get on LSH 5m line. A solid scrum from the home side allowed LSH a clearance kick to relive the pressure.

Some great go forward from Ethan Heart running through the opposition line and Liam Wood stealing the advantage in the line out against the throw were real standouts from this period of the game.

20 minutes in, the visitors secured first points of the game through a push over scrum to make the score 0-5.

More end to end play following the kick off with Adam Snape demonstrating some great attacking and defensive play on the wing.

LSH were awarded a penalty 25 mins into the 1st half from Aldwinians going over the top of the ball that allowed Joe Donlevy to put LSH 1st points on the board and make the score 3-5.

The next passage of play saw some appreciable running rugby from LSH with an increased momentum and fast play from a quick throw in to put the visitors on the back foot.

Aldwinians continued to press forward but were held at bay by the pack and some great defence from Addison Cosgrove and Adam Snape with a fabulous downfield kick from Mat Toole to forced a knock on that eased the pressure.

The game was heavy going but real positive midfield rugby from Ethan Heart, Callum Jackson, Adam Sullivan. Pressure from visitors persisted down LSH blind side following set piece but LSH defence held out with the visitors being held up over the line.

A Penalty to LSH shifted the run of play with another great downfield kick and quick throw in secured by the captain Wood gave LSH positive momentum. Four or five phases of play on the line with close rucking finally gave the home side rewards for their efforts with a try placed down over the line by Joe Donlevy who then converted his effort to make the score 10-5.

The team regrouped at half time and set a strategy to dig deep and ensure the visiting pack were not given the opportunity to gain an advantage. A great return from Sullivan on the kick off showed LSH intent from the off.

Early in the half LSH had a missed penalty conversion from a high tackle that saw the opposition clear the ball 40m down field to change the run of play.

Sustained pressure again from Aldwinians on LSH line resulted in another try stopped and held up over the line. LSH held their ground repeatedly over the next period in what felt like the longest half of rugby this season.

Great line out play again in LSH half, forced an opposition knock on. All the team were putting their bodies on the line in this half, Dave Pickervance playing experience supporting the pack through both effort and sportsmanship.

Unfortunately this sustained pressure resulted in a further score by Aldwinians to level the score 10 all.

The second half was a real defensive effort from everyone on the field right up to the final whistle. With injury time the second half was over 50 mins long!

Final score 10-10. Against a formidable opposition we will celebrate the result.
