The festival's name "Sinulog" comes from the Cebuano word "sulog," which means "like water current movement," reflecting the forward-backward dance steps performed during the festival.

The Sinulog Festival traces its origins to the pre-colonial period, when natives danced to honor their wooden idols and anitos. After the arrival of the Spaniards, the dance was adapted to honor the Santo Niño.

The Grand Parade is the highlight of the festival, attracting millions of visitors from all over the world to witness the colorful and lively celebration.
