Very often, aesthetic improvement is the primary driving force behind the initial dental attendance. Certainly most patients presented to our practice today would request their teeth (anterior and often posterior) to look more aesthetically pleasing. Most of the times we need to match to their existing dentition/restoration and sometimes we have to start from scratch. But what determines aesthetics and what is considered aesthetically pleasing can be a debatable question. Is aesthetics always subjective (i.e. beauty lies in the eyes of the beholder) or are there objective criteria that we could follow?
