2. SOUNDBITE (English) Rob Chang, former U.S. Army paratrooper:
“And by virtue of you all being here, a lot of the veterans today, you could have been out getting your free Denny's Grand Slam, seeing a parade, but instead you're here, right? To voice resistance against this regime that we have in the White House today. I have a lot of complicated feelings that I'm sure a lot of people share here around days like today. You know, I walk around and people every day thank me for my service, especially today on Veterans Day, I got a lot of texts from my mom and my boss telling me, you know, thank you for your service. Thank you for what you did. But seeing today, our streets here in D.C. Full of National Guard, seeing ICE tearing apart families. It makes me really question, what does the word service mean?”

4. SOUNDBITE (English) Michelle Chapell, Congress Working Group for Free DC Co-Chair:
“We used to say that we fight them over there so we don't have to fight them here. I am not sure when the American people became the enemy. I don't feel like I'm the enemy! I don't feel like my children or their classmates are the enemy!"

6. SOUNDBITE (English) Harrison Mann, former U.S. Army officer:
“Whether you're a veteran or not, whether you're an activist or whether you are an elected leader, it's time to start reaching out to the service members in your lives, reaching out, to those random National Guard guys you see on 14th Street, and letting them know not just that you want them to do the right thing, but that you will have their back when they do. Because when you find yourself in the unenviable position of being asked to violate the law or to harm innocent people as I was, it makes a world of difference knowing that someone's got your back. Thank you.”

STORYLINE:
A crowd of people including veterans gathered in front of Washington's Union station to protesting President Donald Trump and his policies such as his use of federal enforcement on American cities. Organizers dubbed the gathering as the "No War On Our Cities Rally."
Speakers from various activist groups marked Veterans Day standing behind Capitol Hill criticizing the deployment of National Guard troops.
Rob Chang, a former U.S. Army paratrooper and is a member of an Anti-war veterans group called About Face said he received a lot of appreciative messages as a veteran on Tuesday but said "our streets here in D.C. full of National Guard, seeing ICE tearing apart families. It makes me really question, what does the word service mean?”
Harrison Mann, a former Army officer who had left made a plea to the crowd to "reach out to the service members in your lives."
"Because when you find yourself in the unenviable position of being asked to violate the law or to harm innocent people as I was, it makes a world of difference knowing that someone's got your back."
Meanwhile, President Trump marked Veterans Day with a speech at Arlington National Cemetery Tuesday, honoring and thanking the nation's service members.
“Today, to every veteran -- we love our veterans -- we say the words too often left unsaid: Thank you for your service. Thank you.”
