Comprehensive water supply and sanitation

Описание: Two years ago, Mahanadi Coalfields Limited partnered with Gram Vikas to make five villages in Jharsuguda and Sundargarh districts open defecation free. Understanding the critical importance of solving the water problem to ensure successful sanitation outcomes, they funded the implementation of the integrated water-sanitation programme of Gram Vikas.

Today, five villages in Odisha are truly open defecation free because each of the households have a toilet and bathroom that are used, and functional 24x7 piped water supply through three taps at the household level.

The insistence on community ownership right from the start has resulted in community contributions of ₹3,87,000 towards a corpus fund for the maintenance and upkeep of the infrastructure. Each of the villages have also formed a Village Water Sanitation Committee, with equal representation of women and men, to ensure continued governance of the water, sanitation systems for their communities.
