Looking at streets with a different perspective is possible. In the urban planning field, streets have always played one specific role, namely hosting cars making sure they’re structured in a way that ensures efficient circulation. What if we start perceiving streets as the space of and for people? Demetrio Scoppeliti, architect who loves cities, explains how it is possible to change the vision we have of streets and how to start rethinking them as a place where kids can play safely, where people can gather and create a community. Demetrio Scopelliti is an architect who loves cities and believes in urban design as a tool for innovation and change. Currently, he is Director of Urban Planning and Public Space at the City of Milan’s Agency for Mobility, Environment and Territory (AMAT). He has a ten-year experience in urban planning, from integrated planning to ‘masterplanning’, from urban design to ‘placemaking’. His approach is based and enriched by contemporary urban needs and trends, constantly evolving over time.
