Ateneo de Manila University invites you to the Talakayang Alay sa Bayan (TALAB) public lecture by 2024 Bukas Palad Awardee Fr Flavie Villanueva SVD titled "The Excluded at the Heart of Mission: Encountering Christ and Sustaining Hope Amid Chaos."
Fr Flavie, known in his parish for his compassion toward people experiencing poverty, was one of the few who bravely spoke out against the Duterte administration’s extrajudicial killings. A former drug user himself, he believed in hope and renewal. He founded the Arnold Janssen Kalinga Center in Manila to help the homeless and wounded regain dignity. When the drug war claimed the lives of some beneficiaries, he cared for their widows and orphans. Despite being accused of sedition, he persisted—founding Program Paghilom to help families of drug-related killings rebuild their lives.
