A photographer captured one of the rarest and most fascinating natural phenomena in the upper atmosphere Red Sprites ⚡️🌌 These glowing red jellyfish-like flashes occur high above thunderstorms, between 50 to 90 kilometers (30–55 miles) above Earth’s surface. They’re not UFOs or alien lights, but a form of transient luminous event (TLE) caused by powerful positive lightning discharges that travel upward from storm clouds into the mesosphere. The red color comes from excited nitrogen molecules, which emit a crimson glow when struck by the electrical field. Red sprites last for only a few milliseconds, making them incredibly hard to capture without specialized cameras and perfect timing. These rare electrical discharges remind us how much of Earth’s atmosphere is still full of mysteries visible only to those who dare to look up at the right moment. 🌩️📸
