Stock market broadening will include consumer sectors, strategist says

While Big Tech has been a driver of the markets in the past, could there finally be a broadening out across markets, and will that broadening out sustain gains? Russell Investments President and Chief Investment Officer Kate El-Hillow joins Morning Brief to discuss how markets may play out as earnings season kicks into high gear. El-Hillow frames her perspective on the consumer: "You start to look at the consumers as we go into earnings season, like is there... more discipline probably in the consumer spending. You're starting to see a little bit more weakness. But they're healthy still. What's that going to mean for the consumer sectors? And what are we going to get from a forward guidance perspective? But we think that there's going to be a bit of a broadening out that comes through. And we're excited for the season to start." El-Hillow follows up by commenting on the strength of the consumer, believing the consumer sector won't be excluded from the broadening out: "We think the consumer is still strong. I think it's looking for those forward signals and positioning for the second half of the year."
