No CCTV Transparency — Then This Happened 😳📸📩⚖️🔍

Описание: On 11 December 2025, I visited Cinch Self Storage in Newmarket and identified the absence of compliant CCTV signage under UK GDPR transparency requirements.

This follow-up documents what happened after the issue was raised formally with the Data Protection Officer.

Under Article 5(1)(a) UK GDPR, personal data must be processed lawfully, fairly and transparently.
Articles 12 and 13 require organisations to inform individuals at the point their personal data is collected.

CCTV signage must clearly state:

• That CCTV is operating
• The identity of the Data Controller
• The purpose of monitoring
• A contact method for exercising data rights

At the time of my visit, this information was not present.

After formal engagement and follow-up correspondence, five new external CCTV signs were installed, staff were given additional compliance guidance, and photographic evidence was supplied to confirm corrective action.

No escalation to the ICO was ultimately required.

This case demonstrates how calm, structured, legally referenced engagement can result in proportionate improvement.

Accountability does not always mean conflict.

Sometimes it means clarity, persistence, and follow-through.
