From entering service for the Victorian Railways on the 15th of September 1957 to being withdrawn from service in 2022 and scrapped in June 2025, Locomotive S302 “Edward Henty” is seen on various freight movements across the network.
In July 1992, S302 was withdrawn from V/Line operations and sold to West Coast Railway on the 4th February 1994, being repainted and name plate restored, it would run passenger services to Warrnambool and Return.
In August 2004, S302 was sold back to V/Line after West Coast Railway ceased operations. The locomotive initially ran with altered WCR livery before being repainted into V/Line Blood n Bone colours in December. It ran with a fixed consist including a PH van for head-end power at one end and a D van at the other end to insulate passengers from the engine noise.
In 2006, S302 was withdrawn from passenger service and sold to freight operator El Zorro, it was painted in the orange, grey and yellow livery and ran freight trains across the state. It was withdrawn in stored at Seymour in June 2013 after El Zorro went into liquidation.
The locomotive was sold to Southern Shorthaul Railroad in January 2014 and returned to service with SSR logos applied in December 2017. In October 2016, S302 was placed on display at Goulburn Railway Workshops for Streamliners 2016.
S302 suffered an electrical fire in 2022, it was transferred to Bendigo North Workshops for storage and scrapped in June 2025.
