Today marks another significant step in Sierra Leone’s national fight against drug abuse, as the First Lady, Madam Fatima Maada Bio, joined forces with the Council of Imams in the Southern Region to officially launch the “Say No to Kush” campaign in Bo City.

The event, held at the heart of Bo, brought together religious leaders, civic actors, young people, women’s groups, students and local authorities, all united in one message: kush is destroying lives, families, and communities, and Sierra Leoneans must stand together to end it.

Madam Fatima Bio emphasized that the kush epidemic is no longer just a youth issue but a national emergency that threatens the country’s social fabric. She expressed deep concern over the rise of addiction among young people and the devastating impact it has on health, security, and family life.

The First Lady called on parents, religious bodies, and community leaders to join hands with government institutions in tackling the problem from all angles, prevention, awareness, rehabilitation, and enforcement.

Madam Fatima Bio also urged the public to treat the fight against kush not as a government project but as a collective responsibility. She encouraged communities to be vigilant, supportive, and proactive in the fight against kush.
