In 1996, Ken from Pure Acid Mixtapes introduced the U.S. to Mark N with his "Studio Mix 96." While the exact number of copies Ken secured is unclear, I estimate it to be no more than 100. "Studio Mix 96" quickly gained recognition, and Ken wasted no time securing two more mixes from Mark to sell.
The first of the two is "Easiest $300 I Ever Made," named with the raw, no-nonsense attitude typical of Mark N and Bloody Fist - bluntly reflecting the cash Ken threw down for the mix. This tape is legendary among hardcore enthusiasts, showcasing Mark's unmatched skill and precision, with tasteful cutting throughout.
Some notable moments include:
00:58 – In the intro, the letters spell out OVERCAST, one of Mark's aliases.
05:00 – The first track, Syndicate's "M'shit Hardcore" is from Bloody Fist 02, of which only 110 copies were pressed. The last one sold for around $600 on Discogs.
19:58 – Nasenbluten's "Massage," programmed in 1993 and unreleased except for an early Nasenbluten tape. Mark likely cut a dubplate of this track.
40:29 – Mark flexes his skills with two copies of Bloody Fist 12; the track is "Terrorist."
57:52 – The tape closes with Nasenbluten's notorious "Rainbow up my arse," pressed on a clear 7-inch, with only 50 ever made - last sold on Discogs for $1,500. Fun fact: I somehow managed to own #6, but of course, in true genius fashion, I sold it off in the early 2000s.
