Thirupparankundram, Arulmigu Subramaniya Swamy Temple is cave temple and one of the six abodes of Lord Muruga, stands 9kms south from Madurai .

It is the place where Lord Muruga was married with Devayanai, is considered as a sacred place for marriages.

It is a cave-temple built in the 6th Century by Pandian kings from rock on a small hill and has about 48 numbers of carved pillars.


The poet Nakkeerar of the Sangam Age has sung many songs in praise of Murugan, and the most well known composition called “Tirumurugaatrupadai” describes the six most important abodes of Lord Murugan.

HOW TO REACH:- Tourists can either hire a cab from Madurai to this temple or travel via public transport. Many buses run from Madurai to here at regular intervals.

TEMPLE TIMING: 05.00 am to 01.00 pm and 04.00 pm to 09.00 pm.
