Brighton is a seaside resort located on the English Channel, 51 miles (82 km) south of central London. It is part of the city of Brighton and Hove in the county of East Sussex, England. The area has a rich history dating back to the Bronze Age, Roman and Anglo-Saxon periods. In 2000, the unitary authority of Brighton and Hove was granted city status.
