Who said that EWIs are just for fusion jazz music?? I certainly didn´t!
This is NOT an attempt to emulate real wind instruments through an EWI. Rather, I wanted to use the unique possibilities of a wind synth to play something more "classical" and bring out a totally new sound out of it. The piece is the famous Waltz No.2, from the Suite for variety orchestra by Shostakovich.

Wind synths are often treated either as a bad emulation of musical instruments or as something too strange for anything else other than some special forms of jazz. While it´s true that they offer tones that should sound like real instruments but most of the time just don´t cut it, wind synths also offer a stunning variety of digital sounds that have nothing to do with classical instruments and that can be surprisingly versatile and just sound good.

My EWI Solo is a wind synth made by AKAI. it´s a standalone complete instrument, with an internal synth and sound bank, ready to play as it is. It is certainly not the top of its kind, but it´s very cheap in comparison to others and still has lots to offer. Here are the patches I used for the transcription (see the colored frames in the video):

Blue: T-Island
Violet: Cantabile Saw
Orange: Triangle to pulse
Turquoise: Mini thump bass

The patches were edited in advance using the internal options of the EWI Solo and the resulting sounds you hear are 100% the sounds coming out from the instrument, without further editing.
