I just picked up the stunning Andrewsfield Aerodrome scenery by Burning Blue Design (on sale in the marketplace till the 13.) and thought it would be a great location for a new video. Today we're taking the Flying Barrel by Aeroplane Heaven up for a short sunset aerobatic display. It's an older release, but since I couldn't find a lot of videos of it that included aerobatics, I thought some of you might enjoy it or would like to see a demonstration of the flight model.
In my opinion the F3F is one of Aeroplane Heavens better MSFS products, with some of their releases there are a few inaccuracies to the visual model, for example with the Trimotor or their P-51. In case of the F3F the visual model is fantastic. I know that there is a lot of criticism towards AH when it comes to the quality of their products. But overall, I call myself a fan of theirs. The DC-3 is one of my favorite aircraft in the sim and I used to love their P-47 and Electra in FSX. A few years ago, they were also incredible generous in making their whole FSX/P3D fleet freeware. I'm really looking forward to their Lancaster.
The F3F is an easy but fun airplane to fly...it's a biplane with close to 1000 hp, what's not to like. I like the startup procedure, it doesn't catch immediately, which is true to real life. The sounds are a bit of a mixed bag, the startup sounds are fantastic and I like the idle sounds, but it could be a bit throatier at higher power settings.
Like I said, overall, it's quite easy to control, but it can become a bit tricky on the ground if you're not careful. It tends to swing quite violently to the sides in a 2-point position. The easiest way to get around that is to takeoff and land in a 3-point position. Which is a real technique that gets often used in quite a few Grumman aircraft (Wildcat, Hellcat & Bearcat for example). Since it doesn't sit very high on its main gear/ the wings aren't at a high angle of attack, I would imagine that it would also work with the F3F in real life.
The scenery for this flight is Andrewsfield Aerodrome close to Duxford. It's one of Burning Blue Designs fantastic releases. In my opinion their sceneries are among the very best, with a lot of attention to detail, not just on the airfield, but also the surrounding area. With Andrewsfield I didn't notice any impact to the FPS. As a warbird/ vintage aircraft enthusiast I'm glad to see that they covered a lot of airfields where these aircraft operate frequently, like Goodwood, Headcorn or Little Gransden. I'm looking forward to further releases by them. I would love to see airfields like Old Warden, Old Rhinbeck or Masterton from them, that would be awesome =)
