For a long time I thought I'd never do a video for this match, but I felt like doing my own spin and revisit this hot mess. Elena plays pretty well for a set and a half, freezes, with Venus playing absolutely godawful for nearly two sets, hurts her ankle, has a timeout, and then starts doing to Dementieva what she did in almost every other match they played: blast her off the court. 😂
Third set is classic shitshow, with double faults and wild errors galore, with Dementieva positively beaming at the end knowing she was finally in with a shot to score a win over a Williams sister, despite being down 3-5 in the third, and only broke back because Venus hit four double faults. 😂 The "such a good actress" comment in the post match interview, the ridiculous facial expressions and fist pumps before shaking Venus' hand, the goofy pirouette twirls to the audience, this was a one in a lifetime match for our dear golden girl. 😂
