This video describes the PEBL implementation of the Sternberg memory scanning task. In this task, the participant keeps in mind a set of letters, and then must decide whether probe letters are part of the set or are not part of the set. The typical results shows a near-linear increase of response time for both present and absent targets. I demonstrate the estimated scanning time per character during one session of the task, which is close to the value Sternberg estimated in the 1960s.
The video shows the basic task, some of the parameters available, the data format, basic analysis, and shows how to change or translate instructions.
