In the 2021 Kerala Legislative Assembly election,
A. N. Shamseer from the Communist Party of India (Marxist) secured a landslide victory in Thalassery with 81,810 votes (61.52%).
M. P. Aravindakshan of the Indian National Congress received 45,009 votes (33.84%), while NOTA (None of the Above) got 2,313 votes (1.73%).
