It is a high altitude huge natural meadow at the height of 10,500 feet above sea level. Tosa Maidan is about 65 sq km natural meadow comprising of many sub meadows and is known as the King of meadows.
Tosa Maidan is a historic gateway to the Kashmir valley and provides the shortest route between Srinagar – Poonch – Punjab. The route was also the "easiest and safest route in that direction", since it provided easy ascent from the Kashir Valley. Sultan Mahmud of Ghazni and the Sikh monarch Ranjit Singh attempted to invade the Kashmir Valley via this route.
Tosa Maidan is a splendid off beat tourist destination and is about 60 km from Srinagar. It is a day trip from Srinagar. Road to Tosa maidan is steep and difficult and an all-wheel drive SUV is recommended for the trip. Avoid rainy days for Tosa Maidan trip, choose a clear day and start early from Srinagar. Better time to visit May to September (June & July the best).
