Welcome to the virtual session for Unit I on Physical Activity and Physical Fitness! This unit is designed to provide a comprehensive understanding of the key concepts, benefits, and components of physical activity and physical fitness.
LEARNING COMPETENCIES
1. Demonstrates understanding of fitness and exercise in one’s health as a habit, as a requisite for PA performance, and as a career opportunity.
2. Articulate the definitions of physical activity and physical fitness and explain the difference between the two concepts.
3. List the physical, mental, and emotional benefits of engaging in regular physical activity.
4. Identify and explain the five components of health-related fitness (cardiovascular endurance, muscular strength, muscular endurance, flexibility, and body composition) and the six components of skill-related fitness (agility, balance, coordination, power, reaction time, and speed).
5. Perform self-assessments or structured fitness tests to evaluate their current fitness levels in various components of physical fitness.
6. Describe safety measures and guidelines to prevent injury during physical activities, including proper warm-up, cool-down, and stretching techniques.
7. Use the FITT principle to structure effective exercise routines, specifying the frequency, intensity, time, and type of exercise for different fitness components.
