Good afternoon everyone. This morning, two branches broke on the nest tree. M15 & F23 were not around, so they were not in danger. The cracking noise could be heard, then both branches left cam view. The outer attic branch fell to the ground, and the attic branch is hanging down, still attached. It appears on the Cam1 view the position of the attic branch is pressed against the outer attic branch. The outer attic branch falls away first (to the ground), then the attic branch falls (still attached at the trunk, hanging down).
Information on the two branches: The attic branch has had a split in it for several years, where the branch attaches to the trunk. That split is shown at 04:34 in archived footage from the season start. The outer attic branch was damaged in Hurricane Ian, with the branch being repositioned, and the split occurring in the outer attic arch. The outer attic branch has been compromised for at least several years.
After the branches broke, CamOps took a tour of the nest, tree, pasture, and pond. The nest looks fine from the Cam1 view. The attic and outer attic branches were not supporting branches for the nest. We will wait to see M15 & F23 on their next visit, and where they will choose to perch. Time stamps below, if interested.
SWFL Eagle Cam banner report 5-11-25: No sighting of F23 or M15. The outer attic/arch branch broke off the nest tree. The attic branch is still attached, but cracked, hanging in front of the nest. The nest is ok. Great Spirit keep M and F23, E24 and E25 and the nest tree in your care.
