Not a True Hornet: This species is a yellowjacket wasp, not a true hornet (genus Vespa). Hornet, by common name only, is also known as bald-faced hornet, bald hornet, white-faced hornet, white-tailed hornet, spruce wasp, blackjacket, and bull wasp.

Bald-faced Hornets made their Nest on the ground instead of up in the trees. This presented a real problem for us.
I take you with me in this video so you can see how I deal with them and learn a little about how truly defensive they are.
I don't generally kill wasps, hornets or other insects that do provide some benefit. But when they threaten people, it's time to take definitive measures to remove that threat.

CAUTION! Never do this with a bunch of bystanders or observers around, they MAY BECOME TARGETS. Bald-faced hornets are known for their extreme defensive behavior. If you have a dog that likes to check in on what you're doing, keep it inside. Children should be nowhere near you when dealing with stinging insects that are known to be defensive.

FIRE! I used fire in this video, and you should be aware that we had several days of rain before I did this. I would NEVER use fire in tall brush during dry periods.

WE have the advantage over stinging insects at night, and that's the time when you will find most of the wasps at home, hit them then! If you do this during daylight hours, up to half the hive occupants may be out foraging and scouting.
