A new exhibition inspired by Virginia Woolf’s essay "A Room of One’s Own" is underway at the Taipei Fine Arts Museum. The exhibition features 100 works by 28 female artists. FTV reporter Stephany Yang spoke to the artists and curator to find out more.
These works were created by Mali Wu. Her works were inspired by the stories of women who experienced the February 28 incident.

In response to the February 28 Incident, many exhibitions were held but most of the victims commemorated were men. I hope that the February 28 incident can also be viewed from a female perspective.
Another featured artist Chang Ting-ya’s works were inspired by "Flowers in the Mirror," a novel written during the Qing Dynasty.

The large piece of work behind me was completed using my imagination. It alludes to women’s rights.
The exhibition was curated by Kat Siao. It was inspired by Virginia Woolf’s extended essay "A Room of One’s Own" and arranged in reference to the three parts of the novel "To the Lighthouse." The exhibition reflects the rich inner life of female creatives, and extends the autobiographical narrative commonly seen in literature to showcase the artists’ creative history and life.

The theme of the exhibition is based on the three parts in a Virginia Woolf novel. They are about her, her family and childhood life. The autobiography reflects the identity of a female writer, which can resonate with this exhibition.
The exhibition will be held at the Taipei Fine Arts Museum till Dec. 15.
