When you look at a tree, you assume you’re seeing the tree itself. But what’s actually present is color—and color is not a property of trees. It’s a psychological experience. Remove color, and the tree disappears entirely from perception.

Hardness, roughness, and smoothness are labels for sensations. Trees don’t contain sensation. Sensation happens in experience, not in matter. You never touch an object—you feel a sensation.
