Описание: The Taj Mahal is situated at the South bank of Yamuna river in the Indian city of Agra.
The beautiful mausoleum is made entirely out of ivory-white marble and was declared one of the New7Wonders of the world in 2007.
The tomb is the centrepiece of a 42-acre complex, which includes a mosque and a guest house surrounded by gardens.
In 1632 the Mughal emperor, Shah Jahan, who reigned India from 1628 to 1658, commissioned to build the tomb.
He built the Taj Mahal as last resting place for his favourite wife Mumtaz Mahal.
He was so taken with her that he showed little interest in exercising his polygamous rights with his other wives, other than dutifully siring a child with each.
Mumtaz Mahal died giving birth to their 14th child in 1631.
The Mausoleum was completed in 1643 after 11 years of building. The entire Taj Mahal complex was completed in 1653.
