In this video, we make a visit to the @sotheby’s auction house in New York City to explore and take a look at some of the worlds finest art before it heads off to auction. Specifically, this video is focused on the 3 Alfa Romeo Berlina Tecnica Aerodinamica cars completed by Nuccio Bertone (coachwork) and Franco Scaglione (design).
•
1953 Alfa Romeo Romeo B.A.T. 5 - the first of the B.A.T. cars making it’s initial debut at the 1953 Turin Auto Salon with the goal being achieving an unprecedented coefficient of drag through a futurist aerodynamic design.
•
1954 Alfa Romeo B.A.T. 7 - the second B.A.T. car produced & arguably the most flamboyant and outlandish in terms of design. The rear tail fins arched even further to replicate a bat. The coefficient of drag improved even further making this not only one of the most aerodynamic cars of the 50’s, but also still today. Debuted at the 1954 Turin Auto Salon, but the work took so long, that Bertone and Scaglione personally drove it into the show.
•
1955 Alfa Romeo B.A.T. 9d - by far the most “practical” B.A.T. car. Subsequently debuted at the 1955 Turin Auto Salon after the previous B.A.T. cars. The design was dulled down to be as road-useable as possible. The least dramatic of the B.A.T. cars in my opinion, with design replicating that of modern Alfa’s.
