Fender Tex Mex Pickups - in a budget guitar? In my case I did it and I want to share the results.
I wouldn't say they are a budget friendly upgrade Fender Tex-Mex Pickups can be a bit spendy. So in this video we are going try to give you enough information to decide if they are right for your guitar .
Are they worth putting them into your inexpensive strat style guitar?
Will they give you the upgrade in sound you are looking for
Here are some of the questions and answers
• Overall is it worth it, when the pickups are actually more than the guitar? (In this case for me YES) the cost for me was about $120
• Doe’s it change the sound enough to be worth it? (You be the judge on this one, I think they are)
• Should I use 250k or 500k pots? (I recommend 250k pots because 500k pots would make them even brighter
• Is it hard to do? (It depends on you and your level of experience. If you have to pay a guitar tech to do it, it depends on your budget
• Should I upgrade the pots as well? I’d say yes, you are going to be in there and you have invested a bunch of $ in the pickups then upgrade the pots too
• Should I change the capacitors too? NO but it depends on what you want
• Do the pickups fit into pickguard holes (In this case YES)
• Do the Tex-Mex pickups fit into the existing pickup covers (NO) but they come with their own
• Does it make the guitar more valuable? It’s another video in itself and it depends on which guitar player you are talking to
