Описание: Pakistan has launched its fourth Hangor-class submarine, the PNS Ghazi, at a Chinese shipyard, marking a significant milestone in Islamabad’s largest-ever defence deal with Beijing. Under the $5 billion agreement signed in 2015, Pakistan is acquiring eight Chinese Type 039A Yuan-class diesel-electric submarines, with four built in China and four constructed under technology transfer at Pakistan’s Karachi Shipyard.

The Hangor-class is based on the Chinese version of the Russian Kilo-class submarine, similar to those operated by the Indian Navy. Named after the historic PNS Hangor, which sank an Indian frigate during the 1971 war, the class also includes vessels Mangro, Saad, and the newly-launched Ghazi — named after the submarine lost off Visakhapatnam during the 1971 conflict.

Expected to enter service from 2026, the full fleet of Hangor-class submarines could be operational by 2028–2030, complementing Pakistan’s older Khalid-class submarines to form a fleet of up to 11 vessels.
