Thom Moore wrote this song after a personal experience that was more than a mere epiphany somewhere near the cairn at the summit of Knocknarea.
"This gives it a significance lacking from even modern Irish folklore, in which the cairn is reputed to be the grave of Queen Medb or Maeve, the queen of Connaught who features so prominently in the classic Old Irish literature of the Red Branch cycle...."
