San Diego Orcas Foil Run

Описание: This is the full video taken on Feb 1 2024 where we were greeted by three orcas just off the coast of La Jolla California while attempting a mission bay to oceanside harbor downwind foil run. They swam circles around us for a few hair raising moments then left. The footage doesn't do it justice, they were massive! You could tell they were very intelligent by the way they moved around us looking at us in curiosity. We must have been the only two vessels out that day as there was a front blowing 25-30knots and pouring rain making for great downwind foiling conditions. The crew this day were local legends Chuck Glynn, Kyle Knox, Jon Launais and Mark Aviña (who was paddling with the orcas!) I know orcas mostly are not aggressive towards humans but seeing the size of them and how close they got to our friend Mark made me stop mid sentence. I couldn't help hysterically laughing due to sheet excitement I had been seeing reports of them in the area and finally getting to see these magnificent creatures in out home waters of San Diego up close was one of the most wild ocean encounters I have experienced in my life.
