Choreographed by Derrick Patten. Code Blue is a piece that examines the vulnerability of registered nurses during a fateful night as they become one to save a life. In a world where nurses are undervalued and accused of playing cards with their large amounts of downtime by senators, this piece seeks to shed light on the underrepresented topic of nurse burnout and compassion fatigue.

A fresh choreographer, Derrick Bernard Patten draws upon his experiences as a registered nurse to put movement on the unseen moments of human connection, helplessness, and resistance that goes on away from the public eye within healthcare. Regardless of the topic, Derrick pushes for his pieces to contain a sediment of the lives that touch him daily through working at a hospital with smooth floor work and balletic contemporary movement.
