I go Grocery shopping in Tanzania as an African American, and do a full grocery haul so that you can know how cheap food is in tanzania east africa from an americans perspective. prices vary drastically. Some items are much cheaper here in east africa, but some items are more expensive. Dar es salaam is home to the main international airport in Tanzania julius Nyerere airport. Therefore they expect to receive a whole lot of travelers to the area and the items within the the village supermarket grocery store express that. I had a lot of fun seeing new and interesting items for shoppers in the masaki slipway area. Join me on a day grocery shopping in Africa. The masaki area is considered one of the richest area in tanzania the village supermarket in dar es salaam tanzania features its one deli/ meat market and it has a bakery within it as well. It is a complete one stop shop for all of your needs the only thing is the fruit and vegetable selection is a little slim and they have a lot of imported fruits while i would prefer a lot more locally grown produce. On the same token many of the imported items was seated on a shelf near a locally made version. Like most stores in tanzania it is more eco friendly, it is very rare to see single use plastics. Every establishment in the area seems to be very eco conscious, and also very diet accommodating to vegans and vegetarians.
