I read an article in the Economic Times that highlighted how well the equity markets have performed over the past year.
Almost all mutual fund categories within equity have delivered over 20% returns in the past year!
There are a total of 21 equity fund categories like large-cap, mid-cap, small-cap, flexicap, etc.
Almost all of them have posted average returns above 20%.
For example, consider small-cap funds: there are 25 small-cap funds, and the average return across all these funds is more than 49%.
In this list, PSU and infrastructure funds had the highest returns over the past year—72% and 61%, respectively.
But this data sends us a warning: whatever rises too fast can fall even faster.
Not every year in the equity market behaves like this one. If your funds have risen too fast too quickly—beware. Always remember, until you sell, the profit isn’t real—it only takes a couple of sessions to wipe out all the gains.
