Managing soil borne disease, improving fruit yield and quality and reduced labour costs are just some of the reasons cited by Australian strawberry growers for making the transition from field-based production to substrate.
Watch this webinar recording from the 1 November 2018 as growers and industry experts discuss their experiences with transitioning from soil to substrates. In this recording, moderated by Clinton Muller from RMCG, Marcus van Heijst from Priva Oceania provides an introductory overview of what growers who are considering the transition to substrates need to think of, with a particular focus on nutrition and irrigation management. While strawberry growers Laura Wells from Taste ‘n See in Queensland and Scott Carter and Gabi Yasinov from Sunny Ridge in Victoria, reflect on their substrate production systems and lessons to date.
The key lesson shared is the importance of doing your background research, consulting widely and taking the time to plan your system to make sure it meets your future production needs.
This webinar was delivered by the Strawberry Innovation project, funded by Hort Innovation using the strawberry research and development levy and funds from the Australian Government.
