thunderstorms across the eastern Gulf Coast region into early this
evening...

Record-breaking cold across the Southern Plains to the lower
Mississippi Valley through Tuesday morning; record cold possible across
interior Mid-Atlantic Tuesday morning...

An expansive winter storm continues to be in progress from the Midwest
through much of the Northeast while heavy icing is ongoing across the
interior section of the East Coast as far south as the northern suburbs of
Atlanta, Georgia this Sunday afternoon. The low pressure system
responsible for this winter storm will move through the Appalachians late
this afternoon as a new low pressure center develops just off the
Mid-Atlantic coast and then slides off the New England coast Monday
morning. Heavy snow is forecast to overspread from west to east across
Pennsylvania and New York state followed by central and southern New
England through tonight before the snow gradually tapers off finally for
southeastern New England early Monday morning. Widespread heavy snowfall
of a foot to locally 2 feet possible across the interior Northeast and New
England including Boston and New York/New Jersey metropolitan areas.
Meanwhile, a wide swath of sleet will continue to impact areas just to the
south across the interior Mid-Atlantic into coastal New England before
ending as a wintry mix this evening. Still farther south, severe icing is
expected to impact interior East Coast as far south as the northern
suburbs of Atlanta, Georgia into early this evening with the passage of a
cold front. In addition, severe thunderstorms are possible through early
this evening across the eastern Gulf Coast region along with heavy
downpours.

The entire storm system will move off the East Coast into the Atlantic on
Monday. Arctic air will then rush in behind the storm system and bring
bitterly cold temperatures for much of the eastern two-thirds of the
country for the next couple of days. In fact, below freezing temperatures
will penetrate south of Brownsville, Texas Monday morning, along with
below zero readings across the Texas Panhandle and into Oklahoma. These
bitterly cold temperatures will be at record-breaking levels across the
entire southern Plains. In addition, brisk northerly winds will produce
dangerously cold wind chills! More record cold temperatures are expected
across the southern Plains into the lower Mississippi Valley Tuesday
morning as low temperatures dips into the single digits across the
interior Mid-Atlantic, which will challenge some records.

Across the northern Plains to the upper Midwest, frigid temperatures down
into the -10s to -20s are forecast for Monday morning. An Alberta clipper
will then arrive Monday night before moving through the Great Lakes on
Tuesday, bringing snow showers and possibly brief periods of snow squall
across the region. Temperatures will moderate some late on Monday before
a replenishment of arctic arrives on Tuesday for the northern U.S.

Across the northern High Plains to the northern Rockies, a reinforcing
arctic front is bringing a period of snow into the Colorado Rockies and
the central High Plains through tonight. Some snow is also in progress
across northern Texas into early this evening.
