Alone in Fiordland: Solo Hiking the Kepler Track

Описание: In this hiking vlog, we go solo backpacking overnight on a hike called the Kepler Track in New Zealand or Aotearoa for 4 days and 3 nights. I was alone in the wilderness in this one, the views were mind-boggling and truly majestic. Being alone made it challenging, I was alone in in the huts for the final 2 nights, for one part of the trail I didn't see anyone for around 72 hours, except a couple people in a boat passing by on the third day.

I wasn't solo camping though, I was staying in the wonderful hut system that makes New Zealand hiking so good. I saw some keas from afar. I didn't need to use many wilderness survival skills luckily, but it was did get very cold - those New Zealand winters on the south island are intense!

This trek, hike, tramp, whatever you call it (they call it tramping in New Zealand) was tough, my bag heavy, it was a real adventure. This was on the south island or Te Waipounamu, near the southern tip of the island in what is called Fiordland National Park. The fiords are majestic, jetting up into the ocean and a wet climate persists in the rainforests along with on the mountaintops. In the Fiordlands it rains here 200 of the 365 days of the year! The forests were magical. I saw strange purple mushrooms, and old ferns that reminded me of my homeland of Vancouver Island.
