Chikankari is a traditional embroidery style that originated in Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh, India, and is known for its exquisite handcrafted designs. It got a GI (Geographical Indication) tag in 2008.
Chikankari has a rich history dating back over 400 years. It is believed to have been introduced by Mughal emperors in the 16th century.The art form flourished during the reign of Nawab Asaf-ud-Daula in the 18th century, who patronised the craft and popularised it among the nobility.
