The Original Northwood Association invited CHAP director Eric Holcomb to present on CHAP and how it could help preserve the neighborhood's historic character. Speaking with Mr. Holcomb was Mary Stevenson, the Covenant Chair of the ONA.
CHAP is a city agency that helps enforce architectural standards in certain city neighborhoods who have obtained CHAP designation. CHAP officials are notified of building permit applications at the point of filing, which starts a process of CHAP and ONA covenant review. Property owners who do not obtain building permits and permission for external alterations can be fined and taken to court by CHAP. The Original Northwood Association, through the Greater Northwood Covenant Association, also maintains its right to enforce the covenant guidelines through litigation against non-compliant homeowners.
