The Perspective of The Trees - A poem by Asha Loon:

I believe that trees can speak,
We just don’t listen in the way they like to talk.
Whispering silent secrets and forgotten stories
Of a world crafted with invisible chalk.

They know what the shadow creatures do
When the ocean is fast asleep.
They watch as the words of the people mean less,
The more words that the people speak.

They see busy crowds full of empty strangers
And how we switch eras when realisations occur.
They laugh at the illusion we call rationality
And the space we drift through in an aimless blur.

I believe trees are the best conversationalists,
And I know this to be true.
Because there are times when destinations are irrelevant,
And all listeners need a listener too.

The trees are familiar with heartbreak,
With being slashed to the ground in a crash of despair.
When all they did was provide the people with shade
And allow their lungs to be filled with clean air.

But the trees are stronger than chain saws
Because they know that once the shallow creatures have destroyed their own kind,
That their branches will wind their way over the rubble and wire fences,
Dissolving the echoes of foolish arrogance that were left behind.

The trees have stood through the art of dying
That we tend to refer to as life on earth.
They say that living beings are memories with the capability of acting,
That being born isn’t the only type of birth.

The trees have a marvelous sense of humour,
And they find it boring when no one wants to dance or write.
They’re amused at how every soul is attached to a shapeshifter
And how humans lose their minds over what is out of sight.

The trees have seen the beauty tucked away in the darkness
And are not afraid of fear.
The trees like to waste their time wisely,
Because what is distant isn’t any further than what is near.

The trees believe that all the unanswerable questions are the ones worth asking the most.
They understand that loneliness doesn’t always come from solitude
And that hiding in plain sight
Transforms an angel to a visible ghost.

But most of all, the trees are free-spirited,
As all their spirits desire is to simply be free.
I believe that trees speak to those who chose to listen and the trees believe that everything is equally temporary and magnificent.

Moral of the story,
Be like a tree.
