Douglas White, MD, MAS, presented the Ake Grenvik Honorary Lecture at SCCM's 2022 Critical Care Congress Virtual Event. Dr. White discussed the ethical tensions that arise when there are not enough medical resources to treat all patients in need, argued that clinicians have an important role in advocating for equitable and effective allocation strategies, and provided three recommendations for roles clinicians should, and should not, play in resource allocation.
Dr. White is vice chair and professor of critical care medicine at UPMC Presbyterian in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, USA.
