"Panag-aapoy", which means "to light a fire", is an annual tradition of Sagadians held every afternoon of November 1 to commemorate those who were gone before us. While others use candles, we use a flammable pine wood called "saeng". The "panag-aapoy" usually starts with a mass and blessing of the "saeng". Afterwards, everyone proceeds to the cemetery to light their "saeng" while the priest blesses the grave. As every graveyard is lighted, the cemetery seems to glow in fire!
With the restrictions brought by the covid pandemic, this year's "panag-aapoy, same as last year, was not observed. The cemetery is actually closed on October 29 - November 2. These videos were taken on October 28.
