This week’s video is a documentation of HJ’s SOLO travel to Fiji for a 16 hours layover while transiting to New Zealand! 🫣 & this video will be packed with lots of information you may be interested in, if you’re also having such long layover in Fiji! 🇫🇯

MONEY CHANGER
I couldn’t find any money changer in Singapore to get me FJD so I prepared USD. However do not that USD is NOT accepted in Fiji so you got to change it at the airport.
There’s a money changer available within arrival 🙂

𝐒𝐈𝐌 𝐂𝐀𝐑𝐃
There’s 2 telcos available in Fiji:
1) Vodafone Fiji
2) Digicel Fiji

Both telcos can be found in Nadi National Airport itself, and yes I know.. Most Google reviews aren’t great but here’s my takeaway:
I picked DIGICEL! Because they provides FREE 2GB for 24 hours ANDDD generally, the data packages from Digitel Fiji are cheaper (just in case I need to do any top ups, which I did & I saved some money).

𝐋𝐔𝐆𝐆𝐀𝐆𝐄 𝐒𝐓𝐎𝐑𝐀𝐆𝐄
There’s luggage storage available at a fee, so if you’re interested in booking for a tour to explore Fiji during the layover, you can store your luggage in the airport and enjoy yourself! Fees are shown in video 😬

Easiest way to commute around is definitely getting around by taxi, BUT do ensure that the drivers are charging based on meter instead of pulling random numbers out of thin air.
Journey from Nadi National Airport to Nadi Town cost me 20FJD by taxi (approx. mins journey).

If you’re feeling adventurous, you can consider taking a bus.
I took a bus from Nadi Town back to the Nadi National Airpart and that only cost me 1FJD. The bus ride was pretty fun & I even made a friend! 🫣

Met my amazing tour guide, John, he’s a really knowledgeable and funny guy! I had such a great time during the tour. Learnt about some of the cultures of Fiji.

There’s shower facilities in the Nadi National Airport which is AMAZING. Super clean and spacious. It’s really good for people having a layover like me, keeps me feeling clean, fresh and comfortable during my flights!

During my return flight, I had another layover and this time, I booked an accommodation.
Accommodation: Balabala Bed & Breakfast

PROS:
✅ 3-5mins drive away from airport
✅ 10FJD for taxi ride to accommodate location
✅ Very nice and clean accommodation, friendly host
✅ Breakfast provided (tea/coffee, toasts, egg, sausages, fruits)
✅ You can request host for a ride to airport if needed

All in all, I REALLY enjoyed my time in Fiji, tho it was short. People there are really friendly, it’s as if everyone knew each other. I felt safe, I even spent some time alone in the town, walking and sitting around.
Fiji is definitely a place I want to back and explore! Till next time 👋🏼
